A Story That Demands To Be Told
"When justice sleeps, the truth becomes dangerous."
In May 2019, Ronald Greene died after a violent encounter with Louisiana State Troopers. For two years, his death was covered up, the footage hidden, and the truth suppressed.
Former Louisiana State Trooper Carl Cavalier refused to stay silent. He blew the whistle—and paid the price. His career destroyed, his life upended, all for speaking truth to power.
Unpunished is an unflinching investigation into systemic failure, institutional silence, and the courage it takes to stand against it. Recognized for its rigorous research, compelling narrative structure, and thoughtful treatment of sensitive subject matter.
Synopsis
"Unpunished" is a feature-length documentary that exposes one of the most disturbing cases of police brutality and institutional cover-up in recent American history.
On May 10, 2019, Ronald Greene was stopped by Louisiana State Police troopers for a traffic violation. What happened next would be hidden from the public for more than two years. Ronald Greene did not survive that encounter.
When bodycam footage finally emerged, it revealed a shocking truth: Ronald was tased, beaten, and dragged facedown by troopers while in handcuffs. His death was initially attributed to a car crash. It was a lie.
At the center of our film stands Carl Cavalier, a Louisiana State Police officer who refused to stay silent. When he learned what happened to Ronald Greene—and witnessed his department’s systematic efforts to bury the truth—he made a choice that would cost him everything. Carl became a whistleblower.
“Unpunished” follows Carl’s courageous journey as he risks his career, his safety, and his family’s well-being to expose the cover-up. Through exclusive interviews, never-before-seen footage, and meticulous investigation, we reveal the full scope of institutional failure that allowed Ronald Greene’s killers to remain unpunished.
This is more than a documentary about one man’s death. It’s a damning indictment of a system that protects its own at any cost—and a tribute to the brave individuals who stand against it.
A Message From The Filmmakers
"When we first learned about Ronald Greene's case, we knew this story had to be told. Not just because of the injustice of his death, but because of the courage of those who refused to let it be buried."
Making “Unpunished” was never going to be easy. We were investigating an active case, interviewing witnesses who feared retaliation, and confronting a system designed to protect itself from scrutiny.
But Carl Cavalier’s bravery inspired us. Here was a man who wore the same uniform as those he was exposing—who understood the personal cost of speaking out—and did it anyway. His moral clarity became our guiding light.
We made this film because we believe in accountability. We believe that Ronald Greene’s family deserves answers. We believe that the public has a right to know how their institutions operate. And we believe that documentary film has the power to create lasting change.
This is not an anti-police film. It’s a film about what happens when institutions fail, when oversight disappears, and when good people choose silence over truth. It’s also a film about hope—about the individuals who remind us that courage still exists.
